Rafting in river Kali is one of the major attractions of Dandeli. Every year thousands of tourists visit Dandeli to enjoy this thrilling experience. To get to cruise along a river has it's own wonders, but imagine doing that at twice or thrice the conventional speeds, it's something special altogether.
Rafting is conducted by a professional team during the months October to March. This can change based on the water level in the Kali river. Water level can vary through out the year based on rain fall and amount of water released from a dam in Ganesh Gudi. Always get details from your host.
This rafting stretches for around 9km and has both major and minor rapids (Grade 2 and Grade 3). The entire journey takes around 4 hours. The journey will start from Ganeshgudi and will end at Mavalangi. Upon arrival at the starting point you will be divided into groups of 7 to 10. Each group is assigned a leader who will be with you through out the journey. First, the leader will provide required information including all safety measures. He will then make you learn the use of oar and menuoring techniques. Life jacket and helmet will be provided to you and the team will help you fasten the same. Soon after this you will get into the raft and take position as suggested by your leader. Balancing the raft for overall weight is important and hence pay attention to what leader says.
You will soon get into the water to get acclimatize yourself to the water. Don't worry if you don't know how to swim.
Next.. You will have to experience it. It can't be explained!!
